TEHRAN (FNA)- Russia is readying to send its Special Forces to Southern Syria to assist the Syrian army in the war against a surge of terrorist groups in the region, a number of Arab media outlets claimed on Wednesday.

The Arabic language al-Hadath news quoted sources in Humeimim military base as saying that the plan to forward Russian Special Forces to Dara'a has been studied, adding that the Russian forces are due to help the Syrian soldiers to quell the terrorists' continued attacks in the region in the last several months.

The central network in Humeimim Military Base also announced on its facebook page that it plans to send Russian troops to Dara'a to help the Syrian army men in the war against terrorism.

The Humeimim facebook page added that the Russian Helborn Battalion 15 troops are already in the region in Southern Syria.

A Tabloid newspaper disclosed on Friday that Russia's special military units had taken part in the liberation operation of the ancient city of Palmyra (Tadmur) alongside the Syrian army.

The Russian-language Komsomolskaya Pravda newspaper published pictures of Russian special forces in Palmyra city.

It wrote that the Russian army's special forces were skilled snipers who killed a large number of the ISIL commanders.

"The Russian special forces helped the Russian pilots to hit the ISIL's military positions in the heights near Palmyra more precisely by monitoring and providing them with intelligence," the newspaper added.

Komsomolskaya Pravda also wrote that the Russian special troops who were equipped with the state-of-the-art weapons, equipment and modern technology played an important role in recapturing Palmyra by backing the Syrian army troops.

It reiterated that the Russian special troops whose faces were covered and their names were not revealed carry out their military operation under a top secret operation.
